We are extremely proud to announce that the Granger Reis charity of the year 2015, is the Railway Children. Their mission is to fight to take children off the streets, and reach these children before they are put at risk of abuse and exploitation.
This year we have set our expectations high, and are working towards raising £20,000! Our hope is that this money will have a real impact, and help Railway Children to continue their excellent work.
We are excited to really ramp up our fund raising activities, and over the coming spring and summer we are taking part in some interesting activities! We have two main events taking place in June:
Three Peaks By Rail- organised by Railway Children, we have 8 very brave Granger Reis employees willing to take on this huge challenge. This will be a unique event, as it is the only Three Peaks challenge which is completed by travelling between the mountains on a special train.
Their challenge will commence on Thursday 18th June, where they tackle their first peak, Snowdon (1085m), overnight! They then make their way to Ravenglass to climb Scafell Pike (978m) before a night on the train up to Fort William to climb the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis (1344m).
Mont Vontoux- Organised by our very own Director of Research & Delivery (Josh Irving), he has rallied 5 of our team to cycle up Mont Ventoux in France.
This is one of the most famous and difficult climbs in Cycling. The road to the summit has an average gradient of 7.43%. Initially the climb is relatively easy: 3.9% over 5.8 km, but the 16 remaining kilometres have an average gradient of 10%. Over the last couple of months the team have been in preparation, seeking out the most impressive and harrowing hills in Somerset and the South West!
Other fund raising activities include the Bristol Half Marathon, taking part in the San Fermin Festival in Spain, as well as our own organisation of raffles, treasure hunts and charity pub quizzes.
There will of course be regular updates of our fundraising activities as they take place, so watch this space! In the meantime, if you would like to help us achieve our ambitious £20,000 goal, please follow the link to our group Just Giving page to donate:
